just for the fun of it

A Golden Parisian Sunset

A Golden Parisian Sunset

I just found out about photographyofparis.com, a website dedicated to beautiful photographs shot in Paris where everyone can contribute. I’ve submitted this picture of one of the Renommées of the Alexandre III bridge in Paris – it has been lying around half-processed for almost a year now… It was about time! (Update: already published over there!)

The golden statue on top of the column is La Renommée de l’Industrie by Clément Steiner, one of four statues decorating the Pont Alexandre III bridge. The Renommée is a divine figure of greek origin, personating public and social appreciation. The other columns hold the Renommées of Arts, Sciences and Combat. The sculpture at the base of the column represents La France sous Louis XIV (France under Louis XIV) by Gustave Michel, who contributed sculptures and decorations to many monuments and bridges in Paris.

The Venice series is not over yet, of course! I just had the spontaneous urge to do something completely different today.
